Tomb Raider II - opaque water

description

Running the Tomb Raider 2 v1.3 ROM, with PCSXR 1.9.93 (86936), the water in the beginning of the first level is transparent as it should be but in the next level, Venice, the canal water is just black and Lara turns invisible in it. Impossible to play the game like that.

Hello Bigghill,

Try using a more updated version of pcsxr. Make sure compatibility hack is not one.

bigghill wrote Oct 6, 2014 at 2:31 PM

Thanks Solis, I have tried using 1.9.95 too but same problem. I can't find any other version newer than that; it is even quite difficult finding where to download 1.9.95 from actually!

Hello BiggHill,

I don't remember having the use you mentioned when i played it on Slackware. Not sure if your using a mac or windows. You can try the links below.

Pcsxr-91360S-windows

Pcsxr-mac

Thanks, I have already tried v91360 (on Mac OS and Windows) and it has the problem described, unfortunately. Seems to be something hard-coded in the executable, probably just a 1 needs to swap to 0 or a 0 swap to a 1, or something. But unless that is done and a new release issued, the canal water in Venice will be pitch black and the playable figure will disappear in it.

Hello Bigghill,

No problem, I tested both the linux and windows version on my system with wine and it looked fine. So it may be a bad image.

I got my ROM from coolrom.com, where did you get yours from?

bigghill wrote Oct 7, 2014 at 1:10 AM

Coolrom.com has TR2 v1.0, 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3. I've tried them all and always same result, opaque water. I've tried ROMs from Freerom as well.

I am using an iMac with Mac OS 10.9.5 and PCSX-Reloaded 1.9.95 (89305M).

Just posted another screenshot of same version of PCSX-R running on Win7 which has the same opaque water problem.

Hello Bigghill,

Sorry can't help you with downloaded images. I believe thats againts the forum rules and illegal.

bigghill wrote Oct 7, 2014 at 3:12 PM

OK but like I pointed out, I have tried various ROMs of the same game from various sources and all result in the same opaque water. Conclusion: not the ROM at fault.

bigghill wrote Oct 9, 2014 at 10:46 PM

Another thing is, I have experimented with other emulators - ePSXe, PSx etc - and they will display the canal water transparent - using the same ROMs as used in PCSXr - but they all have their own individual anomolies. Conclusion, PCSXr is the BEST PS1 emu out there, but for Tomb Raider 2 there is this opaque water bug that needs fixing ASAP!!!! Please.

Hi,
I hope you are well.

Coming back to play this game again, 2 years later, and sad to find that this bug remains. Any chance of a fix please?

bigghill wrote Dec 17, 2016 at 12:36 AM

I just downloaded 1.9.95 and tested this game again. It is fixed to some extent limited testing says:

a) When starting a new game, the water is transparent from the beginning to mid first level at least.
b) Making a Freeze State does not always keep the bug fixed. In other words I saved in the same place in the game on 2 separate loadings of the game from scratch and one retained the fix and made transparent water whilst the other Freeze State did not, the water turned black in that one, same game ISO, same PCSX-R version, same computer etc.
c) Loading an ISO then closing it then opening it or any other ISO afterwards will crash the app.
d) Sometimes the game freezes on the level loading screen, when it is filling the bar up at the bottom of the screen (loading data), it just freezes and have to reset the app or better, close and restart it.

The upload function of this page is not working. I attach files and press submit, it does not work. Sends me dialog boxes saying do I want to leave this page?
